What I Wore Sunday: June 16 '13

So, I'm technically posting on a Monday...

...but it's still WIWS, so here goes nothing!

Cue selfies!

Necklace: J. Crew
Shirt: Marshalls
Jacket: Anthropologie
Skirt: Willi Smith
Shoes: Antonio Melani
Today at Mass, the ladies of our base CWOC group (that's Catholic Women of the Chapel for all of the civilian folk) handed out Mystic Monk coffee and prayer cards to all the daddy-o's present.  Understandably, it was a hit.  I wanted to look classy and cheerful for such an occasion, so I think my quirky little yellow tweed jacket did the trick.  Men seem to like yellow, no? As for the coffee- we had TONS of leftovers.  This was good in a way, but more disheartening to me, as we ordered the same amount as last year.  There were only enough papas present to hand out about 1/3 of what we purchased.

The absentee father is all too common today- not just among families that are cared for by single mothers, but even in those that have a male "role model" present.  I saw this in my Confirmation class that I taught this year.  If I wanted valuable contact with a parent for the vast majority of kids, I'd have to talk to mom.  Dad would forget, wouldn't care, didn't know what was going on, etc..  I didn't meet half of these dads until the day of the Confirmation itself.  The military lifestyle can certainly be irregular and trying, but deployments aside, WHERE ARE YOU, DADS? We need you!

Plus, you missed out on a really premium little Father's Day gift!

I've been practicing a ton for my very first Hip Hop Hustle class on Tuesday.  Sweating bullets because that's how much I've danced... also because I'm terribly nervous.  Pray for me.  It's crunch time.

I just saw a commercial...

...for Olive Garden.  It was highlighting their many "Meals under 575 calories."

*crickets*

Is that a special accomplishment? Could they not at least shave off 25 calories for a nice, round number?

Yeah, that's seriously all this post is about.  Happy Tuesday!

The twenty-fourth MARIAN MONDAY.

Another beautiful Monday is upon us.  At least, it's beautiful up here in ND, thank goodness! How's your neck of the woods?

It's often hard to think of something new, fresh, and Marian every week.

That's why I'm glad that I subscribe to so many solid Catholic lady-bloggers.  They know what's up.

Today, I stumbled across Worthy of Agape's post on the Joyful Mysteries and Dating.

The thing that I love about this post is that Amanda reminds us of what a biblical prayer the rosary is, and how our modern lives are not so far removed from the life of Christ.  Amanda draws parallels between the process of dating and the Joyful Mysteries.  While I may be dating my husband exclusively from here on out, I appreciate that all of us can find consolation in the Joyful mysteries.  They are full of anticipation, excitement, and as Amanda points out- a good dose of wisdom.

So drop by Worthy of Agape, especially if you're in the dating game, and let Amanda know what you think!

What I Wore Sunday: June 9 '13

Glad to be back in the link-up game w/ Fine Linen and Purple!

Today we went to Mass at a different parish than usual.  It paid off, because there was a KofC breakfast, complete with French toast.  Let's get a chant going, shall we?

Every body say "Yeeeeeah!"

You: "Yeeeeeah!"

Free will offering!

You: "Free will offering!"

Chants aside, this is what I wore:

Glasses: Anne Klein
Earrings: Kenneth Cole
Cardi: Target
Dress: Target
Belt: Kohls, I think.
Bracelet: another vintage piece
Shoes: Marc Jacobs
This week's outfit is a good game of high/low.  The base is low, the details are high(er), anyway.

Here's a better shot of the earrings:

Er, something.

Forget fashion and breakfasts for a moment (though, who would want to?) and let's talk Mass.  Today was refreshing.  It was refreshing because frankly, the homiletics at one of our regular parishes leaves something to be desired.  On the feast of Corpus Christi, the deacon talked about how the Cubs remind him of a parishioner who passed away a few years ago.  The smell of baking bread reminds him of his granny.  Aaaand the Eucharist reminds him of Jesus.

*Record screech*

Yeah- what? It reminds you of Jesus, the Christ? The one who said, "I AM the bread from heaven." (Jn 6)

After five minutes or so of what a great "reminder" the Eucharist is, the deacon added, "...But it isn't just a symbol!" and then moved on  to another subject entirely.  I have a feeling that a few ears probably missed that moment, seeing as I could hardly hear it in my distress.

Today's homilist not only got it right the first time, but went deeper than our first homilist can hope to at the present time.  Today, this deacon spoke about the difference between substance and attributes.  How one's soul is one's greatest substance, and yet when we describe ourselves, we often use attributes instead.  This is why many struggle with belief in the real presence.  Many wonder, how can the real presence be "real" if I cannot measure it? They are thinking in terms of the attributes rather than the substance of the Holy Eucharist.

Amen, am I right?

Happy Sunday, all.
